Augmented Reality Books

The Future of Books

You’re on our website, so it’s a fair guess you love books. You’re human (probably), so you also likely love travel, right? At least armchair travel if dealing with airports is too much of a hassle these days. And since this is a website, you likely are somewhat fond of technology. Okay, so the last one is a bit of a stretch since usually that’s a love and hate relationship.

So even if you like just about any combination of two from the above paragraph, you know Augmented Reality (AR) books are going to be the next big thing. Whether they’ll rival J. K. Rowling in sales is open to guesswork, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see an AR edition of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings top the New York Times Bestseller lists in the coming few years. Who wouldn't like to see Bilbo's home in the Shire as a 3D pop-up where you enter the home, browse his library (and perhaps purchase an ebook edition of The Hobbit), and just immerse yourself in the world Tolkien created.

The same is true of Augmented Reality Travel Books and Guides. The possibilities for this are astonishing, creative and literally endless.

How does it work?

So what does Augmented Reality mean when we’re talking books? It’s simple. You have an enhanced book in your hands, and you point your phone or tablet on a page, and up pops three dimensional, possibly interactive representation of an element on the page.

For an example, here’s Evgeniya Simmons, an AR Travel Guide pioneer, showcasing how her upcoming book, NEW YORK CITY THROUGH A TOUR GUIDE’S EYES, works.

Pretty awesome, right? Imagine the possibilities!

What Next?

We’re here to help and facilitate your projects utilizing any modern or any archaic printing technique you can imagine. If you’re into spelunking, how about a waterproof book that has interactive maps of the cave you’re visiting? If you like sculpture, how about having those sculptures printed on a page come alive in three dimensions? Or perhaps there will be a subscription model, where you have the ability to text the author as you’re seeing the sights during specific hours of any given day. If you can imagine it, we'd love to help you turn your dream into reality.

The future is coming. Fast. Be prepared.
